In this workshop you will see what the optimum alignment for the body is. When
aligning to this optimal blueprint you can experience freedom from discomfort.
Learn simple principles that can be applied to your own yoga practice. Students
with injuries are encouraged to attend. Open to the splendor of freedom; a
comprehensive workshop for all students and teachers.
Instructor: Gabriel Finch
Gabriel Finch
Gabriel Finch has devoted the last seven years of his life to the study of
therapy. He began using PNF, Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation, an
assisted active/passive stretching technique with professional athletes. For the
last three years, Gabriel has primarily studied Anusara yoga therapy, inspired
by his teacher, John Friend. When Gabriel isn't teaching a weekly yoga class or
doing a one-on-one private session in Tucson, he enjoys quality time with his
wife and two young children.
11:15 am - 12:30 pm One plus One equals One
This yoga class focuses on relationship. Create the art of asana with a partner.
The postures will be practiced individually and with each other. Gain a greater
understanding of the poses, deepen your experience, enhance sensitivity and
increase balance while in subtle communication with your yoga partner. Explore
the union of the intimate self, other and the One.
Instructor: Marcia Galleher
Marcia Galleher
Marcia Galleher began her journey of yoga in 1969. Teaching hatha yoga for 12
years, Marcia's unique and easy-to-follow style is translated into a meditative,
transforming experience. Her instruction is rooted in the traditional wisdom of
such inspirations as Swami Satchidananda, Sri Chinmoy, Amrit Desai, Ram Dass,
Lilias Folan, Erich Schiffmann and her husband, John, a jnana yogi. Marcia
teaches classes in Bisbee and Sierra Vista and offers special yoga events
throughout the year in beautiful places.
12:30 - 2:00 pm Lunch
2:00 - 3:45 pm Lucid Dreams: The Union of Waking and Dreaming
A lucid dream occurs when you are aware that you are dreaming while in the dream
state. An incredible sense of freedom and exhilaration awaits the lucid dreamer.
We will discuss the techniques that promote lucidity (sattva) and practice them
Saturday night. John and his dream students will relate their lucid dream
experiences and discuss the dreaming experiences of the workshop participants as
well. He has found that bringing our dream awareness into union with our waking
awareness completes the continuum of consciousness.
Instructor: John Galleher
John Galleher
John is the husband of Marcia and a jnana yogi. He has been influenced by the
non-dualistic teachers Ramana Maharshi and J. Krishnamurti, as well as by the
Goddess in Her many forms. John has studied the dreamwork of Stephen LaBerge,
Robert Moss and don Juan Matus and has taught dream classes for 10 years in
Sierra Vista and Bisbee. John graduated from the University of Florida with a
B.A. degree in psychology and has been a spiritual counselor and advisor for 35
years.
4:00 - 4:15 pm Yoga Dance Performance
Bisbee teens offer inspiring entertainment.
Crystal Galleher, Fiona Lillard, Jade Ehrman and Lindsay Stewart have danced
together for five years through Dance Matrix Performing Youth Company. In the
past year, they have conducted their own dance classes without a teacher. They
continue to choreograph and perform. Their performances make you feel as though
you were inside the dance.
4:15 - 5:30 pm Nothing Special Yoga session
This hatha yoga basics class is comprised of a variety of asanas with focused
attention on the breath. This flowing session is designed to challenge the body
and soothe the mind. Drop your expectations. See what you experience.
Instructor: Guy Atchley
Guy Atchley
Guy Atchley accidentally discovered yoga seven years ago while attending a
conference on another subject in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Upon returning to
Tucson he immediately found a yoga studio and started attending classes. Later
when the studio needed another instructor, Guy began to teach. Now teaching for
four years, Guy offers classes at Yoga Oasis East in Tucson where his sessions
focus on yoga basics. Guy has received certification from Lex Gillan of the Yoga
Institute of Houston. Other influential teachers include Godfrey
Devereux/Dynamic Yoga, Darren Rhodes and John Friend/Anusara Yoga, Lilias Folan
and Sam Dworkis who taught Guy that "less is more".
SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 27 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
9:00 - 10:15 am Rhythmic Yoga
Begin the day with live music! Move from the quiet introspection of meditation
and pranayama (breathing) into the spontaneous flow of postures that follow.
Enjoy the enchanting sounds of the harmonium, percussion with chanting, drums,
didjeridoo and Native American flute. Connect to your innate inner rhythm that's
always there, on your mat and off your mat, in your life.
Instructor: Marcia Galleher
10:30 - 11:45 am Discovering the Root
The pelvis is the foundation of all aspects of body alignment- standing, sitting
and moving. Our hips hold great power....remember Elvis?! This complex system
that balances the weight of our torso, head and arms, is also the seat of the
root chakra, the kundalini energy. Learn to integrate the legs and spine through
the gateway of the pelvis so that the strength of the lower body supports the
flowering of the breath, heart and mind.
Instructor: Carolyn Minor
Carolyn Minor
Through 20 years of professional dance training and performing internationally,
Carolyn has always practiced yoga. Five years ago, she received her national
yoga certification through The Yoga Connection (Swami Mahatarananda) in Tucson.
Residing in Tucson, Carolyn teaches hatha yoga, meditation and workshops that
focus on harmonizing the energies of the physical body with that of spirit to
heal and uplift us.
11:45 am - 1:15 pm Lunch
1:15 - 2:45 pm Exploration of Energy Movement with the Didjeridoo
Michael and Annette will discuss the primordial sound and healing properties of
the didjeridoo, a wind instrument used for centuries by Australian aboriginal
clans. The soothing vibration and resonant harmonics opens the chakras allowing
an increased flow of healing energy and awareness. This interactive workshop
will allow each student to experience the healing affect of the didjeridoo while
practicing yoga postures, sitting in the lotus position or just relaxing.
Instructors: Michael Cummings and Annette Weems
Michael Cummings and Annette Weems
Michael and Annette were brought together through the healing power of the
didjeridoo. They recognized the strength of the didjeridoo's sound and vibration
through their experiences of past Shamanic journeys, out-of-body travel and
lucid states of awareness. They have brought the didjeridoo to meditation
groups, yoga classes and work with clients on a private basis. Their intent is
to spread awareness of the powerful vibrational space the didjeridoo creates and
accessing it for personal healing and enlightenment.
3:00 - 4:15 pm Vigorous Yoga
In many ways astanga yoga is like a martial arts form; a choreographed sequence
which through repetition, builds strength, balance and flexibility. In this
workshop we will do the sun salutations, all the standing poses and some of the
seated poses and inversions from the "primary series" of astanga. Bring your mat
and an adventurous spirit!
Instructor: Susan Zagorski
Susan Zagorski
Susan Zagorski's practice of eight years is a reflection of the wonderful
teachers she studied with in Chicago; Daren Friesen of Moksha Yoga, Tom Quinn of
Yoga View and Nancy Lanoue, martial arts instructor and her "teacher of
teaching". Susan's instruction is also influenced by a teacher training course
given by Erich Schiffmann. For the last two years, Susan has been offering
'vigorous yoga' classes in Bisbee and is grateful to the many adventurous
students who have joined her. Susan does her own practice every morning, facing
the sun, in her desert straw bale home.
